Alexander Francis St Vincent Baring, 6th Baron Ashburton (7 April 1898 – 12 June 1991) was a British businessman and politician. He was educated at Eton and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, seeing active service during the First World War in the Royal Scots Greys. In 1924, he married Doris Mary Therese Harcourt (1900-1981), daughter of the 1st Viscount Harcourt. Through her, the family acquired the famous 'Harcourt emeralds'. 〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=4524290 )〕 In the Second World War, he served in the Auxiliary Air Force, before returning to his career in the City of London, as a director of the family bank. Ashburton and his family lived in Hampshire, where he was active in public life, serving as a member of Hampshire County Council and later as Lord Lieutenant of the county. He was appointed a Knight of the Garter in 1969. Since his death, his Garter banner has been on display at Winchester Cathedral. He died in 1991, leaving two sons.
